History

In 1934, a Lyonnaise des Eaux regional centre first opened the Water Control and Analysis Laboratory at Le Pecq (France).

The beginning of the 70’s was marked by the creation of a Research Department, the first of its kind in the sector. At first the research focused on drinking water, namely the application of ozone and activated carbon to water treatment, and later this moved on to wastewater.

With the creation of the CIRSEE in 1981, by François Fiessinger, research at Lyonnaise des Eaux developed rapidly. It was during this period that membrane filtration technology was developed and perfected.

The CIRSEE has always participated in the development of SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT in France and worldwide. It is today SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT’s main research and expert centre within a network of more than 400 scientists.

In 2002, the CIRSEE inaugurated a new building with over 1000 m2, which today welcomes researchers, experts and technicians whose work focuses on water issues (from natural resources to the distribution of drinking water) and wastewater and the environment (industrial and urban wastewater treatment, odour management and environmental impacts).
