Permanent drainage network diagnostic tool

The structural knowledge of drainage networks is fundamental to managing the technical and financial challenges required to ensure they last. For inaccessible drains, this knowledge is based principally on television-based inspections, a proven but onerous method.

The DIAGRAP® permanent diagnostic methodology for drainage networks developed by Lyonnaise des Eaux consists of cross-referencing the multitude of network data available (self-monitoring data, potential degradation factors) with rapid diagnostics made by television-based inspections (video-periscopes). The analysis and interpretation of the results can be used to establish a structured television-based inspection plan and propose to decision-makers the most appropriate actions to implement (replacement and rehabilitation investment smoothing).

Successfully implemented in various municipalities in France, such as the Communauté Urbaine de Bordeaux, this diagnostic tool affords a better prediction of risk areas, thereby focusing the television-based inspections (CCTV) on these areas. For larger municipalities, these inspections effectively complement the data supplied by the flow measurements of permanent diagnostic systems.
