Legionella analysis in wastewater

In 2003, the French Institut de Veille Sanitaire (National Public Health Monitoring Institute) counted 1527 cases of legionellosis and 11% of these cases were lethal. According to this fact, a national plan for Health & Environment started in 2004, mainly aiming at a 50% decrease of the number of legionellosis cases.

The CIRSEE participates today in a national research project, supported by the National Agency of Research (ANR) : the PERLE project. This project is dedicated to improve Legionella analysis in wastewater to understand the role of wastewater treatment plants in terms of microbioligical storage for Legionella.

The CIRSEE hold on molecular biology techniques to measure Legionella.
